Hi, I'm Laci! I am from Milwaukie, Oregon. I am currently a fourth-year student at Oregon State, studying apparel design and sustainability. Growing up, fashion was always one of my interests, I would often sketch designs and brainstorm ideas for my future brand at a young age. Later on, I learned about the harmful impacts the fashion industry can have on the environment, which became another aspect I wanted to explore. A large reason why I came to Oregon State was because of the university’s emphasis on sustainability and the double degree program. Consuming and living more sustainably is something I value in my everyday life.
Throughout my time at Oregon State I have grown a lot as a designer learning valuable skills such as flat pattern making and utilizing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Currently, I am working on my senior apparel design collection. In this collection I am tying in aspects of sustainability into design. The focus of my project is experimenting with natural dyes and fibers in my athleisure wear focused collection. Throughout this process I have learned about the history of natural dyes, the behavior of natural dyes and fibers, and the current application of them in the industry. In the future, I would like to work with an apparel company that shares the value of bringing sustainability to the fashion industry as an apparel designer. Outside of apparel, I love being outside whether that is hiking, playing sports, or simply relaxing. Being outdoors is a large part of my inspiration for design and it reminds me why sustainability in fashion is so important.
